How can I get more involved with LPHCA. I see many things wrong in this industry and would very much like to be a part of the "force" helping to clean up Private Hire and ensure we all get fair treatment and get rid of the amateur 2 bob mini cab drivers and companys. As is normal this time of year its goes a bit quiete so myself and a few work friends have to go "plot up" normally at one of the NHS hospitals. Owned Vehicles vs Rented Vehicles Costs

Why do PHV companies charge so much rent for there vehicles. I currently pay around £1080 per month including insurance. Car is around 216 per week, insurance 40 a week. I have done a bit of the old "sums" and it works out roughly 75% cheaper to finance your own vehicle. Also searched a few leasing companys and the cost is nowhere near what I have been paying. Has anyone in London or elsewhere tried using biodiesel yet?

We've been running our cars on 100% biodiesel (B100) since July with no noticable problems yet! The stuff we use is 80% vegetable oil and 20% recycled chip fat. It is properly processed by a legit company with duty paid, and because we bulk buy we get it at 80p per litre including VAT.

Our cars are a Chrysler PR Cruiser with Merc 2.2 diesel, a Range Rover with 3 litre BMW diesel, and recent addition a chrysler Voyager...

Potential Fuel Blockades

There are whispers that the 2000 demonstrations and blockades against the price of fuel are about to be repeated.

Are there any arrangements in hand to ensure that Licensed PHV Drivers are afforded the same priority at petrol station forecourts as was given to taxi drivers in 2000 and doubtless will be again?

On 1 July 2007 England become smoke-free. The new law was introduced to protect employees and the public from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke. From 1 July it became against the law to smoke in virtually all enclosed public places, workplaces and public and work vehicles.

The LPHCA with the Private Hire Board and The Door 2 Door Campaign Committee will be pressing TfL and The Mayor's Office for implementation ASAP.
